Cassandra and The Boy Doll
Cassandra is a woman. She always has been, but her whole life people told her she was a man. She transitioned, and now it’s time to put away her ‘boy doll’; her constructed male identity.
Unfortunately, Cassandra is discovering that taking a scalpel to parts of your personhood is more difficult than expected. Boy Doll had to be her shield while she found her footing as female, but now he has a mind of his own and he’s not ready to give over his life easily.
Can they share? Will Cassandra accept him as part of her life? Say a heartfelt goodbye? Or violently kill him?
Cassandra and The Boy Doll is presented by Magnetic North Theatre Company. This work seeks to fight the sensationalisation and fetishisation of trans stories in mainstream media. With a majority of
the creatives identifying as trans, this is a reclamation of trans narratives for us; by us.
Cassandra and The Boy Doll performed at Glitterfest, The Arts Centre Gold Coast in October 2016 and Anywherefest, This Must Be The Place in May 2016. It has now been offered a place at Melt in collaboration with the Brisbane Powerhouse. Tickets are available here
